The first digital ID card will be issued by the end of this year and all traffic fines will be paid only through govPay from this September, according to a statement issued by the Presidential Media Division.
This was revealed during a progress review discussion on projects and programs implemented in 2026 related to the Ministry of Digital Economy. This was stated by officials who participated in the discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat today (19) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Furthermore, the progress of the projects and programs currently implemented by the Ministry of Digital Economy and the institutions under it under the government's program to increase Sri Lanka's digital economy to $ 30 billion by the year 2030 was also discussed extensively, the Presidential Media Division said.
Accordingly, the progress of the programs implemented under the Department of Registration of Persons, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Unit, the Data Protection Authority, GovTec, Sri Lanka Telecom - Mobitel, the Colombo Lotus Tower Management Company and other institutions, and the operation and progress of projects including the TV Program Digitization Project, were reviewed separately during this discussion.
The progress of the govPay program, which has been introduced to facilitate all transactions made by the public with the government, was also reviewed, and it was revealed that from this September, all traffic fines have been paid only through online technology.
