The Sri Lankan government has decided to provide financial assistance of $1 million to provide relief to the people affected by the severe floods and landslides in Nepal. This major assistance, which has been provided on the instructions of President Anura Dissanayake, is to be used for emergency relief and humanitarian assistance to the affected people.
The President of Sri Lanka has expressed his deep regret over the loss of life and the hardship faced by the Nepalese people due to the floods and landslides, and recalling the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Nepal, the President has emphasized that Sri Lanka stands with the people of Nepal in this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath had a telephone conversation with Nepalese Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal this morning and expressed Sri Lanka's condolences, support and brotherhood. The Minister stated that Sri Lanka is ready to provide further assistance to Nepal in the future.
