The Numbeo Traffic Index by Country 2026 Mid-Year, released by the website Numbeo, has named Sri Lanka as the country with the most congested road conditions in Asia.
According to the latest index, Sri Lanka leads with a congestion index score of 254.5, followed by Bangladesh at 246.2 and Iran at 215.3.
Indonesia, the largest and most populous country in Southeast Asia, is the fifth most congested country in the region, according to the report. Meanwhile, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam have reported relatively low traffic congestion.
Globally, Sri Lanka has become the third most congested country in the world with an index score of 320.3, behind only Nigeria, which topped the list, and Costa Rica, which came in second.
Bangladesh and Kenya complete the top five countries globally.
The ‘Numbeo’ Road Congestion Index measures overall road congestion based on factors such as travel time, time lost due to congestion, fuel inefficiency and carbon dioxide emissions from traffic.
