About two years ago, there was a ban on importing vehicles into Sri Lanka, but the ban has now been lifted, and the government is working to further ease vehicle import restrictions in the future, said Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath. He said this while participating as the chief guest at the Motor Rally 2026 vehicle exhibition parade organized by the Sri Lanka Vehicle Importers Association.

The Minister emphasized that the government is committed to creating a country where citizens can easily travel and fulfill their daily needs in their own vehicles.

He pointed out that the government was able to resume import activities in a short period of time, and today there is an opportunity to import any type of vehicle without restrictions.

He also emphasized that due to the conflict situation in the Middle East, certain restrictions have been temporarily imposed, but those restrictions are short-term and will be lifted in the future.
