Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission Chairman K. P. L. Chandralal said that if efforts are made to minimize electricity generation from thermal power, there is a possibility of stopping the fluctuation of electricity tariffs.
He said that the reason for the fluctuation of electricity tariffs in the past period is the high cost of generating thermal power.
He said this while expressing his views at a media conference held today (24) regarding the purchase of electricity from power plants based on energy sources.
He also stated that it is still not appropriate to obtain electricity from thermal power generation when there is a possibility of generating electricity from solar power and renewable energy.
It is an unnecessary outflow of foreign exchange, and since tariff values also change with the increase in oil prices in the world market, it also affects the fluctuation of electricity tariffs, said Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission Chairman K. P. L. Chandralal.
